Steal vs. Splurge - Solid Teak Live Edge Stool

I love making my home into a haven - a sanctuary that's beautiful and functional and sings to me ... but without having to take out a loan for every addition to my decor!  I'm sure I'm not alone in the necessity of keeping within the confines of a strict budget, or being averse to doling out more than you need to, so I'm scouring the stores to find some of the best deals on my favorite curated finds to share them with you and save you the trouble of sourcing the best options yourself.

I am obsessed!
Earlier this week I found a solid teak stool - one of my thriftiest thrifts to date, in fact. There's something about the raw solidity of it's gnarled, brindled, strigose mass that evokes a sense of harmony and terrestrial simpatico in me. Perhaps it's the inherent congruency with nature, the impervious strength of the teak itself that draws me, or the adaptability of the piece despite it's apparent permanence. Either way, it's a piece that to me is more of a fulcrum around which I would design a room than a piece purchased to fill a void in an existing space with a preset style.   This stool does have a singular ability to lend itself to a variety of decor styles though, so you don't need to follow my peculiar penchant of endowing inanimate objects with almost preternatural qualities to make it work with your own tastes regardless of whether those run to mod mid-century, rural rustic, flourishing farmhouse, casual contemporary or brashly bohemian.

Standing around 13" high, this propitious piece makes a fabulous stool or plant stand, or a unique side table or nightstand that's the perfect height for a low profile platform bed or floor cushion living room setup. It has yet to remain in the same spot for more than 48 hour stretches: it's versatility is being put to a serious test! It started out in the bedroom, moved to the hallway, went onto the screened patio for a time and moved back to the living room where it's currently serving as a gantry for a zz-plant. Maybe next week I'll give it a stint as a printer stand in the office, or leave it near the glass bricks for the cats to grandstand from.

My own stool was a one-off thrift find, but I've found a few similar ones. I chose the rounded, spherical shapes as the focus of this feature - my own preference for organic shapes to balance out the hard lines and angles of my home, but there are conical and square versions out there as well.

Happy shopping!

Just a little postscript:  I'm not affiliated and don't receive compensation in any way for any items I've featured - they're just beautiful things I want to share.
